Low lit porch times with a bourbon are what I crave after a long day on the water when the sun falls just right and illuminates the golden hour of summer…Or March works too. Feels so strange to be sitting here watching the buds on trees come alive and hear the spring birds sing their songs. I guess this is it! So settle in and I’ll tell you a story of what this winter has been like.
November came quickly with that snow storm that made me excited to sit at the vice and listen to some folky songs to put me in the zone. Okay, end of story, hah. But I’m not kidding. That is all I can say about the winter of 2026.
Aside from the occasional day on the water, winter was different this year. The challenge for me is dwelling on what has happened in the past and having a touch of anxiety about how this fishing season will play out. Will the waters rise? Will I be able to wade those waist high currents? Will I almost fall in the water to cross my favorite river to fish the spot where I know the fish will be? How many times will I be able to take my dad fishing with me? What memories will come from this year? These are the questions I think of when I sit and take in the last bit of sunshine from the day.
That’s all for now…but I figured why not throw some words on the screen and share whats been on my mind.
Thanks,

I started writing down one thing at the end of every day — what I actually managed to do. Not a to-do list, not plans. Just one small win. It’s surprising how quickly it shifts your perspective.
